KARACHI: As demonstrations against the nomination of bureaucrats as vice chancellors grow, academic activities at many universities in Sindh have been suspended for the fifth day in a row.
In protest of the government’s choice to choose bureaucrats as vice chancellors, the Federation of All Pakistan Academic Staff Association Sindh (Fapuasa) started the boycott of instructional activities.
Since January 16, there have been disruptions to classes at more than 17 universities, including the University of Karachi.
The proposed changes to the Universities Act that would permit non-academics and bureaucrats to hold vice chancellor positions have been sharply denounced by Fapuasa delegates.
