LAHORE: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Punjab announced on Friday that law enforcement has taken Amin al-Haq, a close associate of Osama bin Laden, the founder of Al-Qaeda, into custody. This is a noteworthy step.
“The terrorist was taken into custody from Sarai Alamgir, a town in the Gujrat district,” DIG CTD Usman Akram Gonadal stated, adding that the arrest was made during an intelligence-based operation.
Having been connected to bin Laden since 1996, the CTD stated that Haq was one of the extremist group’s elite militants and had participated in multiple terrorist acts.
The person who was in charge of overseeing the security of the late Al-Qaeda leader, Amin al-Haq, has also been labeled as a terrorist by the UN.In 2021, he was spotted in Afghanistan. The CTD official said, “He also has a Pakistani ID card with the addresses of Lahore and Haripur added to it.
On January 25, 2001, Haq—who was born in the 1960s in the region of Nangarhar, Afghanistan—was listed as a terrorist by the UN Security Council.
