Imran Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and former spymaster Faiz Hamid were accused of being “partners in crime” by Defense Minister Khawaja Asif.
“[Faiz’s] personal benefits aside, his and PTI founder’s interests had converged,” Asif, a stalwart of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), whose leaders have long accused Hamid of being responsible for the fall of their previous government, stated on Tuesday.
According to the military’s media branch, Lieutenant General (retd) Hamid was officially charged with a number of offenses, including breaking the Official Secrets Act and participating in political activities.
A day earlier, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) claimed that these violations had jeopardized state interests and security.
The charges also include inflicting unfair losses to individuals and abusing government resources and authority.
