When patrons in Dusseldorf, western Germany, requested item number 40 on the menu, police indicated the restaurant would supply the narcotic. The cost of the customized order from the pizza is unknown.
“It was among the most popular pizzas,” stated Michael Graf von Moltke, the director of criminal investigations.
He stated that food inspectors had initially alerted the police in March.
Officers from the narcotics squad buzzed the restaurant manager’s apartment when they started to monitor the establishment. According to Dusseldorf police, he then threw a bag of cocaine out of the window, where they “fell right into the arms of the police officers.”
40g of cannabis, 1.6kg of cocaine, and €268,000 (£223,480) in cash were found by the police. The 36-year-old manager spent a few days in custody.
According to the authorities, he quickly reopened the establishment and carried on serving pizza number 40 along with the customary side order.
After a few weeks, 150 officers smashed a whole drug ring in western Germany, detaining three individuals, including the suspected 22-year-old leader of the operation, and raiding the homes and businesses of another 12 suspects. This provided detectives the chance to examine the supply chain.
