Although terrorism and extremism have claimed the lives of tens of thousands of people, including security guards, police officers, prominent political figures like former prime minister Benazir Bhutto and Awami National Party (ANP) leader Bashir Ahmad Bilour, and regular citizens, Pakistan has made significant progress in combating these threats.
The nature of these attacks varies depending on the location, including Balochistan, Karachi, and the former Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA). Many cities, including the biggest in the nation, have become into hubs for both domestic and international terror networks.
What is needed is a just and impartial examination of how and why, throughout two separate wars with opposite goals, terrorism increased to such an extreme degree after 1979 and again after 9/11.
