KARACHI: Regarding the prevailing heatwave in the port city, Karachi Commissioner Syed Hasan Naqvi has denied the death toll claims being made, emphasizing that the actual number is not as high as is being claimed and has not been verified by any source.
At a news conference on Wednesday, the commissioner said that approximately 1,700 cases of heatstroke had been registered in the city, but that 10 deaths had occurred as a result of the illness in the previous two days.
According to Naqvi, who was providing information on the recent heatstroke deaths, eight deaths happened on Monday and two on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan expressed concerns about the 568 deaths that the Edhi Foundation had estimated were caused by heatwave-related illnesses.
