Barrister Saif, the adviser to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister on Information, stated on Wednesday that the parties to the months-long dispute had presented a plan to turn over their weapons to the government under the terms of the Kurram peace deal.
In an interview with News, Barrister Saif stated that the government would grant lawful handgun licenses to willing civilians for their own security, while the warring tribes would turn over heavy weapons to the police. Additionally, he affirmed that the continuing demolition of bunkers in Kurram was part of the peace deal, which calls for the dismantling of all such structures.
Last month, a peace deal between Kurram’s warring tribes ended a protracted era of bloodshed and tribal conflicts in the unstable area.
