ISLAMABAD: The ruling coalition is stepping up its efforts to introduce a highly anticipated constitutional package in parliament, so on October 17, the federal government called separate sessions of the Senate and the National Assembly. This is happening just one day after the Shangai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.
The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MNA Syed Khursheed Shah leads the special parliamentary committee, which convenes regularly to discuss the proposed 26th constitutional amendment. The coalition government has spared no effort to reach an agreement on its contentious “constitutional package.”
Among other things, the constitutional package intends to establish a federal constitutional court and impose a three-year term limit for the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP).
