ISLAMABAD: According to the government’s draft proposal for the planned constitutional revisions, Qazi Faez Isa, the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), will be succeeded by one of the Supreme Court’s three most senior justices, The News reported on Sunday.
An eight-member parliamentary committee is said to be in charge of choosing the candidate for the coveted position.
All political parties regularly convene meetings of the special parliamentary committee, which is chaired by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MNA Syed Khursheed Shah, to deliberate the proposed constitutional changes, as part of the coalition government’s increased efforts to reach an agreement on its contentious “Constitutional Package.”
The administration needs a two-thirds majority in parliament and 13 votes in the National Assembly to approve the constitutional modifications.
