The head of PR at Baidu, the largest search engine in China, has issued an apology after her remarks endorsing a work-til-you-drop mentality provoked a backlash from the general public.
Qu Jing claimed in a number of videos on Douyin, the Chinese counterpart of TikTok, that she was not responsible for the welfare of her staff members since “I’m not your mother.”
In addition, she threatened to take revenge on subordinates who voiced grievances regarding her oversight. “I can make it impossible for you to find a job in this industry with just a short essay,” she stated.
Ms. Qu admitted on Wednesday that her posts, which have since been removed, attracted “very pertinent” criticism.
She posted on WeChat, “I humbly accept them after giving them a lot of thought.”
Ms. Qu’s outrage draws attention to the infamously inadequate work-life balance.
