On Tuesday, Beijing maintained that it had disclosed COVID-19 material “without holding anything back” in response to the World Health Organization’s request that China provide additional data and access in order to comprehend the disease’s causes.
After initially appearing in Wuhan, central China, in December 2020, COVID-19 destroyed economies, overtook health systems, and killed millions of people.
There is a “moral and scientific imperative” for China to divulge more information, according to a statement released by the WHO on Monday.
China responded by claiming to have made the “largest contribution to global origin tracing research” and defending its transparency.
“Five years ago… China immediately shared epidemic information and viral gene sequence with the WHO and the international community,” stated Mao Ning, a spokesperson for the foreign ministry.
