As Vice President Kamala Harris tries to bolster support among a shaky coalition in the crucial swing state of Michigan, a number of incidents in Dearborn, a suburb west of Detroit, over the past few weeks have brought attention to the city’s growing anti-Israel sentiment.
The city’s mayor, Hammoud, spoke at a protest on September 25 in favor of Lebanon and the late Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. The rally included cries of “Death to Israel” and calls for the return of Jews to Poland.
When Hammoud said, “The truth is, they want us to split up,” the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) recorded the rally and reported on it. “But I have a very clear message. We at Dearborn believe that the principles we uphold are not just for the citizens of Dearborn but also for individuals anywhere in the world.
