I hope that this collection of breathtaking photos serves to highlight the importance and beauty of insects at a time when they are under tremendous threat.Gustav Parenmark, a 17-year-old Swedish photographer, took home the under-18 title with this image of a banded demoiselle damselfly relaxing.
“Waking up early is the key to photographing sleeping odonates,” he stated.
“This species of damselfly is usually very skittish – but I went out at 04:00 to capture them inactive, making them easier to photograph.”
Cuckoo bees resting won the insect photo contest.
Luke Chambers, from Yorkshire, won the Royal Entomological Society Insect Week photography competition with his image, Sleeping Cuckoos.
