In recent years, Rowling—who has consistently denied being transphobic—has come under fire for her opinions on transgender rights, stating that she would rather go to jail than use the pronouns that transgender people prefer.
In an interview with US magazine The Atlantic, Daniel Radcliffe, who rose to international fame as Harry the schoolboy wizard in the popular novel adaptations, revealed that he hasn’t spoken with the author directly throughout the dispute.
In the end, he stated, “It makes me really sad because I look at the person that I met, the times that we spent together, the books that she wrote, and the world that she created, and all of that is so truly empathic to me.”
In June 2020, after Rowling took issue with the headline for an opinion piece about healthcare equality titled Opinion: Creating a more equal post-COVID-19 world for people who menstruate, the 34-year-old actor first publicly stated his support for the trans community.
