The 37-year-old actress spoke with Variety after receiving the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Mary Lamb, a mourning cafeteria manager, in The Holdovers.
“I have the keys to the castle now! I was trained to make the most of limited resources. It’s great to have access to tools and possibilities, particularly as a woman of color,” Da’Vine told the site.
When asked how she felt the next morning after celebrating her big win until 6 a.m., the actress responded, “I am grateful. I felt seen. I feel cherished. I feel valued. I believe that my time and effort have been worthwhile. “I am excited about the future.”
“Growing up as someone who didn’t have much, imagine getting a lot: it’s exciting. “To have access and to be a woman of color is extremely important,” she stated.
Da’Vine also stated that she donned her grandmother’s glasses in the film for a specific reason.
