The matter was brought up and the two letters that National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq wrote requesting that PTI not be awarded the reserved seats were discussed at a meeting on Thursday that was chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja.
The legal division of the commission briefed the group.
There will reportedly be another meeting on Friday, where legal experts will be consulted further, according to reports.
According to sources, ECP will decide on the NA speaker’s letter about the new law.
Speaker Sadiq said that the Supreme Court’s ruling on reserved seats “cannot be implemented under the Amended Election Act, 2017” in a letter to the ECP last month.
Following the ECP on May 14, the ruling coalition lost a two-thirds majority in the lower house of parliament.
