According to Lee Kai-fu, CEO of the Chinese startup 01.AI, companies like DeepSeek have figured out how to use processors and apply algorithms more effectively, which has allowed China to close the gap with the US in some sectors on AI development to only three months.
Former Google China CEO Lee, a well-known person in the global artificial intelligence industry, told Reuters that company DeepSeek showed China has overtaken other countries in fields like infrastructure software engineering.
When DeepSeek introduced an AI reasoning model in January that it claimed was cheaper to construct than its Western competitors and was trained with less sophisticated chips, it rocked the global AI business.
