The government believes Donald Trump, the victor of the US presidential election, will not demand the release of Imran Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), from prison after he assumes office, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif stated on Wednesday.
Four years after being kicked out, Asif’s remarks were made just hours after Republican Trump defeated Democrat Kamala Harris to win the White House contest.
“We don’t believe Trump will demand the release of the PTI founder. During a special Geo News broadcast on the US election, the defense minister stated, “Let’s wait 15 to 20 days and see what stand he takes.”
Khan praised Trump after his election, stating that he will be beneficial for “Pak-US relations based on mutual respect for democracy and human rights.”
