To prevent tooth decay, the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS) has advised kids to avoid eating lollipops or other sticky treats.
Dr. Charlotte Eckhardt stated: “While we don’t want to be overly strict about a single celebration night, it serves as a helpful reminder that this should be treated as an event rather than the usual. Sugar snacking is particularly harmful to oral health.
According to her, avoiding lollipops is one of the finest things you can do because they expose kids’ teeth to sugar for extended periods of time, which raises the risk of dental decay.
The RCS further emphasized that the most common reason for pediatric hospitalizations is dental deterioration.
According to NHS England data, 19,381 children in England between the ages of five and nine were hospitalized in 2023–2024 due to dental decay.
