Defense Minister Khawaja Asif stated that he did not believe that “meaningful negotiations” with the former ruling party could be started in the current political climate, which includes the threat of civil disobedience from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and consecutive marches on Islamabad.
The defense minister accused the troubled party created by Imran Khan of fostering a “unfavorable” environment for the reconciliation effort in an interview with News in Sialkot on Sunday.
The imprisoned PTI founder, who lost his job as prime minister in 2022 due to a no-confidence vote, threatened to start a “civil disobedience” action against the government earlier this month if his demands—which include a court investigation into the crackdown on party supporters—were not fulfilled.
He stated that the committee would engage in negotiations with the federal government.
