Muhammad Yunus, the interim leader of Bangladesh, expects that despite President-elect Donald Trump’s harsh criticism of violence against minorities in the Muslim-majority country, relations with the United States, the largest importer of Bangladeshi clothing, would improve.
In reference to Trump’s win in this month’s US presidential election, Yunus told The Hindu newspaper, “Foreign policies don’t usually change because of a change in the president.”
“Over the years, we have developed a very positive relationship with the United States.” We’re hoping it becomes strengthened.
In a post on X at the end of October, Trump stated: “I strongly condemn the barbaric violence against Hindus, Christians, and other minorities who are getting attacked and looted by mobs in Bangladesh, which remains in a total state of chaos” .
