Rumors that Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa had postponed the May JCP meeting in order to “facilitate the government’s judicial package”—which includes raising the retirement age of judges in order to provide the top Supreme Court judge with a “extension”—have been going around for a few days.
Reema Omer, a legal expert and lawyer, has refuted the purported reports based on the JCP meeting minutes and a letter from the chief judge, suggesting that the reality may be different from the rumors circulating on various digital media platforms.
It should be mentioned that the federal government has repeatedly denied any intentions to provide the chief justice, who is scheduled to retire, an extension.
