Recent discoveries of ancient settlements on Al Sinniyah Island, a popular tourist destination 42 miles northeast of Dubai, by archaeologists in the United Arab Emirates have shed light on the early history of the area.
The findings came from excavations, one of which, according to the nation’s Department of Tourism and Archaeology, was focused on the remains of an old pearling metropolis and finished in March.
According to the Miami Herald, archaeologists believe the site is at least 1,600 years old and possibly dates to the fourth century, which is one or two centuries earlier than previously believed.
