KARACHI: According to legal experts, the Supreme Court’s ruling on Saturday could be interpreted as a “constitutional showdown” between the ECP and the highest court. It will also likely complicate the process of enacting a constitutional amendment and subject certain MNAs to Article 63A, which could result in repercussions for voting against party lines or crossing the floor.
Eight Supreme Court judges criticized the ECP in a written order or clarification on Saturday, alleging that the party was attempting to cause confusion regarding the July 12 ruling of the SC, which declared the PTI eligible for reserved seats in parliament. The judges claimed that the ECP’s request for clarification was an attempt to postpone the implementation of the ruling.
