Inspectors from the Coast Guard noticed Connie the Container Dog barking and scratching at the walls of a container at a port in the Houston-Galveston area. They had to get a crane to lower the container before Connie “popped out!”
According to the US Coast Guard (USCG), a group of coast guard inspectors was haphazardly going through shipping containers at the port in the Houston area last Wednesday when they heard barking and scratching coming from a container high up in a stack.
Before the dog, who rescuers have named Connie the Container Dog, could be released, the container, which was approximately 25 feet in the air, had to be lowered by crane.
The USCG posted an update on social media, stating: “A dog burst out when they opened the door and dropped the container!
“This adorable girl was exhausted, hungry, and overjoyed to meet her rescuers after being imprisoned in the container for at least a week.
“The Coast Guard members gave her water and brought her to a local animal shelter for further care.”
When Connie was finally freed, US Coast Guard investigators discovered she had been stuck without food or water for at least eight days. Connie was filthy and thin.
The location of the container is unknown, although the organization’s Facebook page stated that it came from the Houston-Galveston area. It was crammed with abandoned cars that were probably headed to be auctioned for parts elsewhere.
Therefore, before it was picked up, officials think Connie was probably in a car in a scrapyard.
They also stated that if Connie hadn’t been discovered by the inspectors, it would have probably taken an additional week for the cargo ship carrying her container to reach its destination, leaving her without access to food or water for a period of two weeks.
