Dolly Parton released the poignant new ballad “If You Hadn’t Been There” in remembrance of her late husband, Carl Dean.
Three days after Parton revealed that Dean had died at the age of 82, the song made its debut on Thursday.
The 79-year-old singer announced the news on Instagram, revealing the song’s artwork—an old snapshot of her grinning for the camera and embracing Dean from behind.
“Carl and I fell in love when I was 18 and he was 23, and like all great love stories, they never end,” Patron captioned the photo. I dedicate this to him, and they live on in song and remembrance.
