Shortly after Trump imposed a 10% tariff on Canadian energy and a 25% tariff on Canadian imports, Ford declared his preparations for retaliation.
He declared that he will impose a 25% tax on Canadian electricity exports to the US states of Minnesota, New York, and Michigan.
He stated that he would think about cutting off those states’ access to Canadian power entirely if the US tariffs increased.
Following Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s announcement of his own retaliatory measures, which included an immediate 25% tariff on C$30 billion ($20.7, £16.2) worth of US imports, Ford responded.
Ford can use his own carrot and stick because he is the leader of Ontario, the most populous province and greatest economy in Canada.
