KARACHI: Dr. Syed Mubeen Akhtar, a renowned psychiatrist in the nation, the founder of Karachi Psychiatric Hospital, and the head of Jamaat-i-Islami, passed away here on Tuesday.
Dr. Abdul Rehman, his son, has confirmed Dr. Akhtar’s passing and stated that he had been unwell for a few weeks.
He said that the father passed away today from multiple organ failure after suffering a stroke and an infection.
In 1970, American-returned diplomat Dr. Syed Mubin Akhtar started KPH with the goal of ensuring that everyone has access to mental health care, regardless of their socioeconomic situation. And ever then, KPH has been effectively treating mental illness with top-notch care.
