DUBAI: The Gulf city’s economic development was highlighted on Thursday by the operator of Dubai’s international airport, which reported a record 92.3 million passengers passed through it last year.
Despite regional tensions brought on by the Gaza war and the historic floods that severely delayed operations in April of last year, the number surpassed the previous high of 89.1 million in 2018, according to Dubai Airports.
For the past ten years, the United Arab Emirates city—which is situated between Asia, Europe, and Africa—has been the busiest international airport in the world.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the prime minister of the United Arab Emirates and ruler of Dubai, described the airport as a “global success story” in a statement, adding that it was aiming to serve 400 international destinations, up from the present 272.
