The Football Association has awarded Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur a seven-match domestic ban for making a racial slur toward teammate Son Heung-min.
Bentancur was accused by the FA in September for remarks he made during a June TV appearance in Uruguay. He has also been fined £100,000 and ordered to participate in a required in-person education session.
“Rodrigo Bentancur denied this charge, but the independent regulatory commission found it to be proven and imposed his sanctions following a hearing,” stated a statement from the FA.
The 27-year-old will not play domestically again until December 26. He will miss Spurs’ League Cup quarterfinal matchup with Manchester United as well as Premier League games against Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea.
