The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) said on Friday that it would be stopping the delivery of gas to certain areas of Karachi as winter approaches and the city’s citizens already have to deal with extended, unscheduled load shedding.
The gas supply business issued a statement announcing that on Sunday, December 24, it will be working on developing the gas distribution infrastructure. As a result, gas supplies would be interrupted in certain areas.
The task description in the statement read, “The SSGC will be carrying out a gas distribution infrastructure development job that will involve installing a 16″ dia. isolation valve on a 20″ dia. C-station main in main Ibrahim Hyderi, Cantonment Korangi Creek.”
The business further explained that in order to complete this “indispensable” mission, Korangi’s industrial and
Gas will also be shut off in some portions of the Defence Housing Authority, a wealthy neighborhood in the busy city, for about 13 hours at the same time.
Although the SSGC expressed empathy and said that “inconvenience is regretted,” customers are dissatisfied with their winter supply.

University student Dania Noor, who lives in Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block-18, claimed that the ongoing load shedding in her neighborhood continues to interfere with her daily schedule.
Our entire day is impacted by this unexpected and unplanned period of gas load shedding, and the pressure is too low to cook anything, even when the gas supply is open,” the 18-year-old continued.
