According to Sir Jeffrey Donaldson, the agreement would preserve Northern Ireland’s status as a part of the United Kingdom and, more importantly from the Democratic Union perspective, would do away with.
Due to opposition to the post-Brexit trade agreements that have resulted in trade barriers between Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the party overthrew the power-sharing administration almost two years ago.
Sir Jeffrey Donaldson, the head of the DUP, has stated that his party will bring back power-sharing in Northern Ireland, provided that the UK government presents and approves new legislation in accordance with the terms of the discussions.
Once the package of measures is delivered, he continued, it will serve as the foundation for the restoration of devolved governance.
Sir Jeffrey stated that he thought the agreement would protect Northern Ireland’s status inside the UK and—most importantly, in the DUP’s eyes—would do away with restrictions on products entering the UK and staying in Northern Ireland.
