KARACHI: Imran Yaqoob Minhas, the Additional Inspector General (AIG) for Karachi, asserted on Tuesday that between 300,000 and 400,000 professional beggars go to the city throughout Ramadan in order to profit from the Eid holiday.
According to the top police officer, thieves and beggars used to swarm the city during the Eid season, viewing Karachi as a huge market. AIG Minhas noted that street criminals arrived in Karachi from many regions of the nation, including the interior of Sindh and Balochistan.
In a statement, he urged authorities to install more cameras in order to track and detect offenders in the province capital, saying, “We cannot trace crimes through conventional steps.”
It is important to remember that in street crime occurrences alone, at least 19 persons lost their lives.
In Karachi, however, since January 2024, more than 55 people have died as a result of thwarting robberies.
A month has been given by the Sindh High Court (SHC) to the provincial government to bring back peace and order in the province in response to an increase in street violence in Karachi, according to News.
Following the chairing of a session on the state of law and order in Sindh by SHC Chief Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi, the directions were issued.
