Barrister Ali Zafar, the Senate legislative leader for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, stated on Thursday that the judiciary should avoid getting involved in politics.
His comments were made the day after the premier came to CJP Afridi’s home at his invitation to discuss the agenda for the next National Judicial Policymaking Committee (NJPMC) meeting.
PM Shehbaz and Leader of the Opposition Omar Ayub Khan were called by the CJP last week to provide suggestions for enhancements to the legal system, which would be discussed at the next NJPMC meeting.
The PTI lawyer stated during an appearance on the Geo News show “Capital Talk” that these meetings need to be “one-off” rather than regular.
“Since it creates the appearance of litics, the CJP should refrain from making such meetings a regular occurrence.”
