ISLAMABAD: The tension between Iran and Pakistan has not affected the general elections scheduled for February 8 or their schedule, according to the government and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), as reported by The News.
In response to a question about how the border tension between Pakistan and Iran might impact the polls and its timeline, an ECP spokeswoman stated that the commission was committed to holding the elections on the designated day and at the appointed time.
There has been no suggestion or thought given to changing the election schedule due to the tension between Iran and Pakistan as the ECP is preoccupied with getting ready for the polls.
“We’re operating normally and prepared to hold elections on February 8,” he declared.
Elections will take place on, Information Minister Murtaza Solangi stated when contacted.According to him, the tension between Iran and Pakistan won’t have an impact on the elections’ timing.
The minister thought that things would now begin to calm down between Pakistan and Iran. He bemoaned the fact that some people, including those in the media, are attempting to postpone the polls, which Solangi promised would take place on February 8, by whatever means possible.
In response to a question concerning the security requirements for the polls, the minister of information stated that the government will give the ECP the necessary protection to ensure that the elections are held peacefully. The minister promised that there would be no turning back from the general elections on the scheduled date.
