PESHAWAR: On Wednesday, Omar Ayub, the National Assembly’s opposition leader, stated that attempts were being made to persuade Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), to become a member of the grand coalition.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader told Geo News that he was hopeful Fazl will join the opposition bloc soon and that talks with the JUI-F head were in progress to finalize the alliance.
The PTI has been facing numerous challenges ever since its founder, Imran Khan, was imprisoned. Its attempts to unite in a grand opposition alliance have failed, and its options have been further limited by its tense relations with the establishment.
In response to orders, PTI has accelerated attempts to establish a broad opposition coalition in order to start an anti-government campaign following Eid ul Fitr.
