In an update released early Monday, billionaire Elon Musk, who is leading US President Donald Trump’s attempts to reduce the size of the federal government, stated that the US Agency for International Development (USAID), a global aid organization, is being shut down.
Musk, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, spoke on social media on Monday about the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) on X, the company he also controls. Musk is the head of a federal cost-cutting commission that Trump appointed.
Musk said they were trying to shut down USAID at the start of the discussion, which also featured Republican Senators Joni Ernst and Mike Lee, as well as former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.
