When Sir Elton John had to sing about his death, he revealed an intensely painful moment.
Elton recalled that he started singing a new song that his longtime partner Bernie Taupin had given him, only to discover later that it was about his death. After that, the Cold Heart hitmaker “lost it.”
“Bernie Taupin gave me a lyric for a song called ‘When This Whole World Is Done With Me,’ and I’m writing the verse (music) fairly quickly, and I think this is a really lovely verse,” Elton stated during his visit on the Graham Norton Show.
When he reached the chorus, he revealed, “I realized that it was about my death, my demise.”
