Aleka Shunk, the person behind AlekasGetTogether.com, says her love of “wow” centerpieces served as the inspiration for this dessert.
“Trifles are visually striking and command notice,” states Shunk, a Florida native.
Aleka Shunk’s red, white, and blue cheesecake trifle.
Yields 8 servings.
Thirty minutes for preparation.
Ingredients: 1 angel food cake or pound cake (12–15 oz.) from the supermarket.
26 ounces of blueberries.
Twenty ounces of strawberries were cut lengthwise (from top to bottom).
Two cups of thick cream for whipping.
one-half teaspoon of essence from vanilla.
Cut the cake into big, approximately 1-inch-wide cubes.
Slice the strawberries in half lengthwise. The only purpose of this is to allow the strawberries to be visible through the glass. Continue to make the slices thicker. (For an example, see the photo above.)
3. Fill a large mixing bowl or stand mixer with heavy cream, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar. Whisk on high for 40 to 60 seconds, or until the liquid thickens. Your cream shouldn’t be very thick. When the mixture begins to resemble loose pudding, stop mixing.
