Deeply concerned about the condition of media freedom in Pakistan, the Association of Electronic Media Editors and News Directors (AEMEND) claimed that “every possible tactic” was being employed to stifle dissent.
To discuss the difficulties facing the nation’s media, the executive committee of the media organization met on Thursday.
The PECA ordinance, unjustified social media restrictions, internet shutdowns, legal cases against journalists, restrictions on freedom of expression, and unlawful notices from the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) that caused financial losses to media organizations were all covered in detail during the meeting.
AEMEND emphasized in its statement that the pressure on television networks is intended to stifle dissent and exercise the greatest amount of control over the media.
