Retrenchment from the front lines has been described as “like a horror movie” by Ukrainian soldiers fighting in the Kursk region of Russia.
Ukrainian troops have provided the news with detailed details of a “catastrophic” withdrawal despite intense fire, columns of wrecked military equipment, and continuous attacks by Russian drone swarms.
To safeguard their identities, the soldiers who used social media were given aliases. A “collapse” was described by some as Ukraine losing its largest town, Sudzha.
A complete picture of the situation is impossible due to Ukrainian restrictions on travel to the front. However, five Ukrainian soldiers told us what had transpired in this manner.
