The Raiders were 3-2 at the beginning of that season, but head coach Jon Gruden quit when the Wall Street Journal and News published pieces exposing his alleged use of misogynistic, homophobic, and racial language in emails that went back to 2010.
After that, the Raiders named Rich Bisaccia to head coach in an acting capacity. Bisaccia calmed things down and guided the club to the postseason. At a recent appearance on OutKick’s Don’t @ Me With Dan Dakich, Mayock expressed his belief that Bisaccia should be appointed on a full-time basis based on his performance as an interim coach.
The reason the players are drawn to [Bisaccia] is not because he is forgiving; rather, it is because he always has their back and cares for them just as much off the field as he does on it. “He’s among the rare coaches I’ve ever seen who can give a guy a three-hour spanking, and that guy will be in his office talking about problems with his girlfriend afterwards,” Mayock remarked.
Mayock discussed how, during that turbulent 2021 season, Bisaccia guided the Raiders organization through some extremely taxing times.
