Shaun White earned three gold medals in five Olympics as a member of Team USA, and he had the opportunity to reflect on what it meant to him to represent the stars and stripes on a worldwide platform.
White made his Olympic debut at the age of 19. He told News that he didn’t understand what it meant to wear red, white, and blue until he returned home from Turin, Italy, after the 2006 Games.
“It was great. I really got the honor of doing that five times, which is incredible. “To be honest, I didn’t really understand it the first time I went to the Olympics,” White admitted. “I was like, cool, I’m here and I’m trying to win this.
