Claims that the cost of appealing to the Supreme Court of Pakistan has increased from Rs50,000 to Rs1 million following the passage of the 26th constitutional amendment have gone viral amid current social media discussions about the change. Prominent individuals, such as columnist Haroon Rashid and YouTuber Imran Riaz Khan, published these claims, raising public concerns about the availability of judicial remedies in the nation.
These assertions, however, are untrue, according to a BBC Urdu fact check. The Supreme Court’s Registrar’s Office confirmed that the actual amount for submitting an appeal is just Rs5,000. The State Bank of Pakistan must receive this payment before any appeal or petition can be filed.
