A conversation between the former chairman of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), Absar Alam, and former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) director general, Lt. Gen. (R), Faiz Hameed, has been made public through a leaked audio recording.
Faiz Hameed is heard putting pressure on Absar Alam to do favors, such as settling license difficulties for two former channels, in the recording that was leaked.
Absar Alam is heard in the released recording asking Faiz Hameed why he has not received any attention, to which Alam replies that he is eager to assist.
As soon as Faiz Hameed suggests sending Brigadier Ghaffar to investigate further, the debate takes a sinister turn.
Given that Hameed had never made a request of this nature before, Absar Alam seemed taken aback by the request.
