ISLAMABAD According to research by the Fake News Watchdog, a non-profit organization that combats misinformation and disinformation, there was a significant surge of fake news during the recent protests of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the federal capital.
The watchdog claimed that the constant barrage of fake news has a disastrous effect. It said that the unverified information also damaged Pakistan’s reputation abroad.
The federal capital was rocked by the PTI protest from November 24–27. Only when the authorities began a late-night crackdown on the demonstrators who had pushed their way to D-Chowk despite multiple obstacles did the party leadership decide to call off the demonstration.
“The circumstances surrounding the PTI demonstrations on November 24–27, 2024, highlighted the significant influence of fake news on political and social.
