Families are mourning and waiting to bring their loved ones’ remains home after being killed in a crush at a significant religious celebration in northern India this week.
On Wednesday, one of the holiest days of the six-week-long Hindu celebration, the Kumbh Mela saw a crush that claimed the lives of at least thirty individuals.
The incident happened in Prayagraj city, close to the Sangam, where devotees immerse and where the holy Ganges, Yamuna, and legendary Saraswati rivers meet.
Tens of millions of pilgrims travel from all over the world to attend the event, which is regarded as the largest assembly of humanity.
