Every year, the Heisman Trophy is given to the “most outstanding football player in the United States.”
Every year, numerous Heisman candidates travel to New York for the award ceremony, where the winner’s name is revealed.
Schools with the most victories: Notre Dame, University of Oklahoma, and University of Southern California all have seven victories; and Ohio State has seven victories. (One player won twice, as shown below.)
Concerning the Trophy
The Heisman Memorial Trophy is named after John W. Heisman, a long-time college football coach who was also the athletic director of the New York Downtown Athletic Club.
The bronze trophy stands 13.5 inches tall and weighs 45 pounds.
Ed Smith, a model, was used to create the trophy.
