After he and his father were attacked at a home in Lifford, County Donegal, close to the Northern Ireland border, a man was taken to a hospital in Belfast.
The attack occurred on Coneyburrow Road on Monday at around 10:00 local time, according to the Gardaí (Irish police).
It is believed that several masked males carrying iron bars broke into the house.
After being taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital, the twentysomething son is receiving treatment for severe injuries. Due to less severe injuries, his father, who is in his 60s, was transported by EMS to Letterkenny University Hospital.
A “quiet and close community” was the scene of a startling occurrence, according to local politician Dakota Nic Mheanman.
