DI KHAN: JUI-F chairman Maulana Fazlur Rehman has called on the current administration to announce the Societies Registration (Amendment) Bill 2024, which addresses seminary registration, as the “president returned it twice, and the bill has become an Act of Parliament.”
During a press conference on Thursday, the religious-political leader questioned, “Don’t bills automatically become acts if they are not given assent within 10 days?”
The administration and the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) are at odds over the contentious madrassa bill, which has already been approved by both houses of parliament. According to Fazl, the government and the religious-political party reached an arrangement for its enactment in exchange for the party’s support of the 26th Amendment.
